Gio's 4th Birthday Party

Giovanni Veneziale, my first baby boy turned 4 on May 11, 2009. Where has the time gone? My husband and I were talking the other day about when I had him and how tiny and fragile he was. And now he is 4 years old, talking non stop, making jokes and friends. He is the sensitive one out of our 2 boys. He is fearful of heights and people not liking him. He is so sweet natured and lovable and yet we fear he is going to have a tough time as he gets older and realizes the world is not a friendly place.

Last week my husband was walking the boys out to the car to take them to school and there were a bunch of kids not much older than Giovanni waiting for the bus. He said, "Hi" to the kids waiting for the bus, and no one responded. He asked John, "Daddy, why don't those kids like me?". As a parent it breaks your heart to hear your child view the world that way. Having him see someone and assume because they don't say hi back to him that it must be his fault. That something must be wrong with my sweet little boy for them not to like him. John told him that it wasn't him. He explained that some kids don't feel comfortable saying hi to ppl they don't know. But, inside John's heart was breaking and he was almost brought to tears. No matter how you explain it, it still is sad.

Anyways, Giovanni turned 4 on mother's day, and John was unable to get off of work so we decided to make his birthday party the following Sunday. He slept over my parents house so I could prepare for company. I don't know if anyone knows what it is like to clean behind 2 kids, but yeah the words cleaning and kids don't fit in the same sentence. So, we set up the house...balloons all over, Diego train arranged on the floor and cake waiting in the wings...

My parents brought the boys home for the party. I missed them so much after I hadn't had them all night and was so excited to see them I ran out to the car to meet them, and there they were passed out in the car...this was gonna be fun. Nico woke up and was instantly cranky, Gio just wanted to open his gifts. The guests slowly arrived bearing gifts. He said hi and thank you to everyone who walked in while Nico had a tantrum in the corner (ahh the joys of a 2 year old). Long story short, Gio had a blast! Opened all his toys, was excited over each and everyone of them. Thanked and hugged everyone who gave him a gift. He is so sweet.

Again, I say my little baby is 4....it saddens me in a way to have him growing up so fast and yet I can't wait to see how he grows up. I love him more and more each day! He is and will always be my baby boy!
